Marissa is a teacherpreneur and blogger who loved her existing logo and color scheme, but was ready for a new WordPress teacher website that better fit her needs. She wanted to go from a “blog'” focused layout to a “website” focused layout. This shift is designed to close and convert!

Before

Here’s a look at Marissa’s website before the update. It’s a pretty “standard” look that most teacher-bloggers had at the time. Header, four buttons, newsletter, blog posts.

WordPress Teacher Website Process

We spent some time exploring Marissa’s needs for the new site and looking at options before jumping in to the actual update process. You can get a closer look at my design process here.

The previous design was minimal and clean but Marissa wanted to convert more visitors to subscribers, so we needed to bring more attention to her CTA. She also wanted to increase her sales, so we needed to focus on her products too. With those needs in mind, I sent several new theme options for Marissa to consider, along with suggestions for how to best lay out her new content. Because Marissa was readily available, this process went quickly and we were ready to install.

Because this was a quick turnaround, I put Marissa’s website in a custom coming soon page while I worked. This let visitors connect with her shop and socials if they visited during the transition.

Here’s the new homepage! After I built the site, I sent it to Marissa for feedback. At this point, she opted to swap two photos and slightly modify her text after seeing how it all looked together. The result is an optimized website that’s designed to convert!

Now she has her CTA front and center to collect subscribers. We also added a slide-in subscribe box in the bottom corner on a time delay.

The shop section is clear and easy-to-find, with photos that clearly show her resources. The three featured resources are easy for her to update in the future.

Then below that, we still have a blog section. There’s one large featured blog category, followed by recent posts.

Finally, there’s a rotating slider of testimonials for some of her resources.
