Jen and Wendy help educate other teachers about the Science of Reading. They contacted me to completely update their existing WordPress education website with new branding and a new theme.
Services Used:

First, here’s a look at the WordPress education website before. There wasn’t anything “wrong” with it, but they didn’t like the colors and wanted to offer more information on the new homepage.

Updated Branding
Their initial vision sheet was wide open in terms of design. They sent a simple font as inspiration and 3 colors from Pinterest. They said they liked their current child reading under the tree, but were open to seeing other options too. When that happens, I try to send a variety in the first draft because it’s almost always easier to narrow down what you do/don’t like when you can SEE it.

After seeing the initial options, they decided they did want to add a tree to the new silhouette I had used so I created this new graphic. Adding a tree kept their old branding familiar, but updated. They liked the font from #1 above and adjusted their color inspiration. At this point we also sourced a new script font, which they approved before I began the first round of revisions.

For the second round of revisions, they opted to switch to a sans serif font. We’re still looking at multiple different color layouts too.

With one more revision, we landed on their final header design. Then I use a similar process to create the matching round alternate version. My design style tends to be more minimal, but I’m always happy to bring YOUR vision to life based on feedback.

They requested a few specific configurations for their first round of revisions.

Once they approved the branding, it was time to build the WordPress website.

WordPress Website Design
The website process works in much the same way, in a back and forth process to bring your vision to life. The more you communicate your likes/dislikes on your question sheet, the faster the build goes. This is their final homepage.

They also want to offer courses and a membership option in the future, so I created two page template that can be customized when they’re ready. This course page will grow with them.

The membership page will serve as a mini landing page and opt-in.
