Joy is an author who contacted me for help with her new WordPress author website design. She was ready to move from an older design editor to a newer, more responsive (and easier to use!) editor. We worked together to select and customize a new theme, as well as update her branding and SEO.

It was such a pleasure working with Christi! When my web host recommended using WordPress with the Kadence theme, I searched online for the right person to build my site — and was immediately drawn to Christi’s design style and her experience with Kadence. I’m so glad I chose her.
The entire process was smooth from start to finish. Christi’s step-by-step approach made it easy to stay organized, focused, and communicate exactly what I wanted. Her recommendations showed a strong understanding of what would work best for my website, both visually and technically.
The short videos she emailed me were personalized to my site and super helpful — not only instructional, but also full of visual options so I could easily choose what worked best for me. She was always quick to respond, easy to work with, and kept everything moving forward.
Most of all, I absolutely love the finished website!
Custom Author Brand Design
Joy sent several specific fonts and a few color palettes that she liked. I always like to give clients what they ask for (options 1-5 here) as well as a few of my own ideas (6-8 here).
Joy liked option 7, but wanted to see a few variations of the “s” at the end. She also wanted to see some other script options.
We were really close with 7, but she wanted to try just a few more “s” options.
Once she selected 7C, I sent a few options for her alternate mark.
Joy’s final brand board reflects a cohesive and peaceful vibe.
Website Before
Joy’s website had a lot going on visually, which was in contrast to her mindfulness approach. She wanted to minimize and streamline the new website. I cleaned up quite a few under-the-hood elements and implemented 301 redirects for pages we planned to remove.

When it was time to build Joy’s WordPress author website design, I focused on bringing the same calming mood to the website. We wanted a minimal, but still aesthetically pleasing and engaging, website design.
Her new homepage highlights both of her books, her press features, and a new email opt-in.
The Book page is packed with features! It includes an overview of each book, testimonials, various ways to purchase, an audio sample, and an excerpt.
The new About page helps readers get to know Joy.
A simple Contact page makes it easy to get in touch.
A simple new Blog Archive helps readers get a feel for Joy’s writing.
Each blog post has a sidebar that makes it easy to navigate posts, but also highlights her books and has an audio sample.
