Alex had a teacher blog design on WordPress.com and was ready to migrate to self-hosted / WordPress.org. She needed a unique setup with two “sides” of her website for two unique audiences– one side for classroom teachers and one side for teacher-authors.
For this installation, I refined her site structure and designed a cheerful new branding package to go with it.

I am absolutely in love with my new WordPress website. I am so glad I found Christi! I gave her a rough idea of what I wanted and she ran with it, creating exactly what I imagined, if not better! Christi built a beautiful website for me and included me in the process every step of the way, answering my (many!) questions and implementing my requests. She completed the site quickly and efficiently and answered my correspondence promptly. Her pricing was fair and included so many things I couldn’t get with other developers. Christi delivered me a professional and stylish branding package, with a beautiful set of graphics that my website was built on. She was able to capture the style that I was looking for. Best of all, she was able to offer the unusual service of providing a website that can serve two audiences. This required careful consideration and extra work, and it turned out perfectly. Thank you Christi, I would work with you again in a heartbeat!

First, let’s take a look at where Alex was when she contacted me. On the left was her existing WordPress.com teacher blog design. On the right was her WordPress.org site, where she had started to set up the new website on her own.

Teacher Blog Design Process
I work on complete package projects in 3 steps: new theme/ layout selection, new branding (colors, fonts, overall style), and then website installation / structure.
Here’s a look at our branding process for this teacher blog design. Based on Alex’s question sheet and our discussions, I was pretty confident we needed a new, softer color palette than what she was currently using. I initially submitted the 5 designs on the left. She picked #2 and wanted to see it in a few different font options, shown on the right.

2 / A was still the front-runner, but she wanted to see it in a few different color and font combinations to make sure. The final logo ended up being a mix of A1 and C1.

For a final side-by-side, my initial design is on top and her final selection is on bottom. Sometimes it just takes a small change to make the perfect design that feels right for YOU.

Then this process is repeated to make the other coordinating pieces. Initial proposal on the left and revisions on the right.

Once the design style is finalized, I create the other website graphics to match.

Need Help With Your Own Teacher Blog Design or Website?
Projects of this size are completed in 2-3 weeks once we start. My current wait list is always in the sidebar, but I try very hard to start all projects within 3 weeks. This typically puts the launch of your new site about 5 weeks ahead, so you can have your own new home on the web up and running soon!
