Find Your Marketing Channel: How to Improve Your Sales Funnels

As a creator, you wear a lot of hats. Between creating products, supporting customers, marketing and managing the backend of your business, it’s easy to feel like you should be everywhere… posting on every platform, blogging every week, and emailing every day. But here’s the truth: most successful businesses rarely do everything. They usually have ONE main marketing engine that drives the majority of their sales. The key isn’t doing more… it’s doing what works best for YOU, and making that system as strong and seamless as possible.

In this post, we’ll look at three common marketing funnels that work well for teacherpreneurs and creative business owners. Simply find the one that sounds most like your business. Then use my tips to improve your sales funnels. The goal is a marketing plan that feels easier, more effective, and aligned to YOU.

Use my tips to find your best marketing channel and improve your sales funnels to create a marketing plan that feels easier and more effective.

Path 1: The Email Engine

Your business thrives on connection. You’re a natural communicator who builds trust through emails that feel personal, helpful, and authentic. Your strength is in showing up consistently for your audience.

Bonus: because you own your email list, you have a reliable, long-term marketing foundation that isn’t dependent on social algorithms.

Your Funnel Flow

Social Media / Pinterest / Organic SEO → Lead Magnet → Signup → Welcome Sequence → Weekly Offer Emails → Purchase (Website or TPT)

This means you use a variety of channels (social media, Pinterest, ads, your website) to advertise a lead magnet. Your audience downloads the lead magnet to join your list. They receive a strong welcome series that introduces you/your brand. Then they become part of your weekly warm market and receive targeted, helpful emails. This leads to purchases on your website or TPT.

The Caution

Your results depend on a steady stream of new, qualified subscribers and maintaining healthy deliverability, open, and click-through rates. Without regular list growth or engagement, even the best funnels can plateau.

Level-Up Tips for the Email Engine

1. Optimize the Top of the Funnel (Acquisition)

  • The Best Lead Magnet Wins: Revisit your top-performing opt-ins. Are they still relevant to your current offers and audience? If not, test a fresh idea. Check your sign-up form placement, design, and conversion rate. A slow-loading or cluttered pop-up can quietly cut your results in half.
  • “Set It and Forget It” Traffic: If you’re not actively blogging, focus on SEO for the content you do have, Pinterest, Facebook Ads, etc. Refresh existing high-traffic pages and create a few evergreen Pinterest Idea Pins that point directly to your best-performing lead magnet.

2. Refine the Middle of the Funnel (Nurture)

  • Audit Your Welcome Sequence: This is where a lead downloader becomes a committed subscriber… and often, a customer. Make sure your 3–5 email sequence:
    a) Delivers the lead magnet seamlessly.
    b) Shares your brand story and purpose.
    c) Introduces a low-cost, irresistible “tripwire” offer that provides quick value and momentum.

3. Boost Conversions (Sales)

  • Segmentation is Key: Don’t treat everyone the same. Use link-click and purchase data to send the right offers to the right people at the right time. For example, new leads might need education and small wins, while repeat customers are ready for bundle deals or advanced products.

Path 2: The Content Engine

You’re a teacher, blogger, or creator who loves sharing ideas in depth. You know that helpful, evergreen blog content can work for you long after you hit publish. Your superpower is consistency. You organize ideas, write well, and build authority over time.

Your Funnel Flow

Google Search / SEO / Social Media / Pinterest → High-Value Blog Post → Content Upgrade / Call-to-Action → Website Store / TPT → Purchase

This means you work to get traffic from a variety of channels to your long-form blog content. Then you provide real value to upsell into paid offers with strong CTAs.

The Caution

Your visibility depends heavily on search algorithms, but with the rise of AI-generated answers in search results, organic clicks are harder to earn. The key now is turning every visitor into a loyal reader or subscriber before they leave your site.

Level-Up Tips for the Content Engine

1. Turn Every Click Into a Connection (The Email Safety Net)

  • The AI Defense: As AI overviews and snippets begin answering questions directly in search results, fewer people are clicking through to full blog posts. That means every visitor who does make it to your site is more valuable than ever. Turn that limited traffic into long-term relationships. Add strong, specific content upgrades or lead magnets to your most popular posts.
    • Example: If your blog post is about 5th Grade Fractions, offer a Fractions Review Quiz or teacher-ready mini lesson. Even if AI captures the quick-answer crowd, you’ll capture the readers who want resources and depth. The goal is to turn short-term clicks into lasting subscribers. While email isn’t your primary marketing channel, it IS a safety net to drive traffic to your existing, long-form content.

2. Focus on Topic Clusters, Not Just Keywords

  • Google now rewards content depth over volume. Instead of chasing dozens of individual keywords, organize your blog into clusters around your core topics.
    • For example, one “pillar page” on Teaching Decimals could link to supporting articles like Adding Decimals, Multiplying Decimals, and Decimal Word Problems. This builds authority, improves internal linking, and strengthens your SEO for every post in the cluster.

3. Optimize Your Conversion Points

  • Placement Matters: Audit where your CTAs live within each post. Are your “Buy Now” buttons or TPT links buried at the bottom? Try placing calls-to-action at the beginning, middle, and end AND make them visually clear. The smoother the path from “I found the answer” to “I’m ready to buy,” the higher your conversion rate.

Path 3: The Social Engine

You thrive in real-time connection. You’re a natural on camera… expressive, approachable, and engaging. Your audience feels like they know you, and that trust converts quickly. Whether it’s Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook, you know how to create content that stops the scroll and sparks conversation.

Your Funnel Flow

Short-Form Video / Engaging Post → Bio Link / Direct DM / Story Link → Checkout Page (Website or TPT)

This means users find you through short-form content on your social media profiles. They comment/message for a link (or click through from a shared link) and most often go directly to checkout.

The Caution

You don’t own your audience. Algorithms shift, accounts get hacked, and reach fluctuates overnight. Without an owned channel (like your email list or website), your income stream is vulnerable to forces outside your control.

Level-Up Tips for the Social Engine

1. Build Your “Insurance Policy” (The Email Bridge)

  • The Non-Negotiable: For the next quarter, make it your mission to convert your most engaged followers into email subscribers. Create a “link in bio” landing page that includes your top products and a strong, relevant freebie that solves a quick problem. Then, make that freebie part of your regular content rhythm by mentioning it in posts, stories, and captions: “Grab your free planning guide — comment GUIDE!”
    • This ensures that even if social reach dips, you’re still growing a stable list of leads who want to hear from you directly.

2. Streamline the Checkout Process

  • Reduce Friction: Every extra click loses buyers. If you’re sending followers to your TPT homepage or website menu instead of a direct product page, you’re adding barriers. Use tools like Linktree, ManyChat, or a custom landing page to feature direct links to your current offers. The fewer clicks, the higher the conversion.

3. Harness the Power of Community for Research

  • Listen to the Comments: Your DMs and comment sections are market research gold. Take note of repeated questions, hesitations, or “I wish you had…” comments. THOSE are clues to what your audience wants next. Turn those insights into new products, exclusive bundles, or quick video series that meet your followers exactly where they are.

No Funnel Is Perfect

Now that you’ve identified your strengths and gained clarity on the best funnel for your business, choose one action item from your path and commit to implementing it this month. Small, consistent improvements create major momentum over time.

If you already feel confident in your primary marketing channel, start strengthening the next one. Over time, you’ll have all three engines working together… each one fueling the others and creating steady, sustainable growth.

And no matter which path you’re focused on, email marketing plays a role in all of them. It’s the one channel you truly own as the bridge that connects your content, social, and sales efforts. When in doubt, invest in growing and nurturing your email list.

Remember: no funnel is ever truly “finished.” Your business will evolve, your audience will shift, and your systems should grow with you. The goal isn’t perfection… It’s progress and alignment with the way you work best in each season.
